For Vermont’s Technology Month, we’re posting about VDW’s contributions to the creative economy and tech community. We start with our work with Symfony, open source software that provides the architecture on which we build custom applications and websites. VDW’s staff are part of a global community of developers who contribute to the tools, documents, and software that powers the Symfony framework.
With spring comes trade show season in Vermont. We are gearing up for the Lake Champlain Chamber of Commerce’s Small Biz Summit on Wednesday, March 26th. Running from 8:30 am to 5 pm at the Sheraton in South Burlington, the day will be filled with workshops designed for small business owners. We will be among 40+ exhibitors who specialize in meeting the needs of small and medium sized businesses.

The discovery of a suspicious “wiry” package at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services offices in St. Albans led to the evacuation of more than 800 employees on Thursday before a hazmat team and bomb squad were brought in, fully equipped with a bomb-detecting robot that would prove to be the hero of the day. Without concern for its own safety, Vermont’s very own bomb robot neutralized the biggest threat known to mankind – a musical greet card – before emerging victoriously, holding the defused device high above its head. USA! USA! USA!

Tomorrow, Friday April 27, marks day 1 of the 2012 Vermont Restaurant Week. Restaurant Week is an 8 day event benefiting the Vermont Foodbank, featuring prix-fixe menus at over 80 restaurants across the Green Mountain State. Dinner prices range from $15 to $35 per person, with many restaurants offering $10 lunches specials. Make your reservations participating restaurants for any day April 27-May 4 and help a great cause while trying out some local eats.
