Vermont Design Works is back after a long weekend of celebrations and leftovers for the Thanksgiving holiday. We hope you enjoyed the holiday with friends and family as much as we did. If you called or emailed us over the break, rest assured that we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Are you a tech professional looking for a change of pace in your career? A recent graduate hoping to get your foot in the door at a local technology company? Just a tech/web-geek wanting to learn more about what the area’s top companies are currently up to? Then you should be at Tech Jam 2013 at Memorial Auditorium. Stop by our booth and say hi, especially if you’re a PHP programmer or you know someone who is! We’re currently looking for someone to join our team and help us develop some of the coolest and most useful apps for companies and organizations both in Vermont and beyond.
For most of us, the story of a tragic fire at Brown Ledge Camp in Colchester ended with the revelation that 2 teens playing with matches and fireworks were responsible. But you probably hadn’t heard that despite the damage caused by the fire, Brown Ledge has been rebuilding in preparation for the originally scheduled opening of camp on June 20. As a long-time friend and client of ours, we’ve been closely monitoring their rebuilding efforts and are excited to post this update on the remarkable progress they’ve made just in recent weeks.
Is it that time again already? Yup! Vermont Restaurant Week is back, with feasts and festivities all over the state beginning today – Friday, April 26. 10% of all proceeds go to the Vermont Foodbank, so indulge in some guilt free gorging now through next Sunday and know that you’re not only supporting local restaurants, but helping a great cause – feeding the less fortunate in our area.
Only three days ’til St. Patty’s and you’ve still not made plans? Well get off yer arses and pull yer socks up ya buncha dossers! Check out our list of VT St. Patrick’s Day events and then come suck some diesel with the rest of us bowsies! What’s that? You’ve heard enough of the phrases I’m clearly stealing on-the-fly from this Irish slang list? Fair enough….
Last January we mentioned that we’d signed as a new client The Center for an Agricultural Economy (CAE), along with their sister organization the Vermont Food Venture Center, for a fresh redesign and website development project. Today we’re excited to announce that the new site has launched!
By now, most of us are aware of satellite and “Street View” imagery in Google Maps, but did you know Google has begun adding 45° aerial photos as well? In fact in 2012 they began rapidly adding hundreds of cities and countries across the globe, including Burlington, VT in mid-November. Today we’ll take a look at how/when Google shows these images, why they are so current, and then explore some of the Queen City from above.
Some lighter fare on this Monday afternoon – Ice Waves! As I approached the lake on Sunday I could see that the National Weather Service wasn’t kidding when they issued their high wind advisory – there were whitecaps as far as the eye could see. But it wasn’t until we parked and went to look over the steep bank that we could see that it wasn’t just water blowing in and crashing on the shore. Check out some photos of this strange phenomenon.
Vermont Design Works is proud to announce the return and our sponsorship of Wintervale 2013, with the first event Sunday, Jan. 6! With the recent snowfall, Intervale Center has forgotten all about “the winter that wasn’t” last year and is inviting everyone to attend this family friendly event. Come demo cross-country skis, snowshoes and skate skis while enjoying some great snacks and hot drinks will other awesome people.
Happy Halloween from all of us here at Vermont Design Works. What do you have planned? Check out some of the celebrations going on around the state.
